About the Event

Join alumni, students, and friends of the Jackson State University Meteorology Program as we celebrate 50 years of legacy, impact, and innovation. Since its founding under the vision of Dr. John A. Peoples Jr., the program has helped shape the landscape of the weather enterprise and produced leaders across meteorology, media, research, emergency management, and thesocial sciences.

This three-day interdisciplinary event will bring together professionals, scholars, and students to:

● Celebrate the program’s rich history and alumni achievements
● Network and build new connections across the weather and climate community
● Highlight student research, internships, and collaborative experiences

The celebration kicks off with a welcome social on November 12, offering an evening of networking, recognition, and tradition.

A Legacy of Impact

Past conferences have featured résumé-building workshops, graduate school fairs, and panels with hiring managers. Broadcast meteorologists have shared valuable career insights, and the 2020 virtual conference engaged middle school students across North America in a dynamic STEM event.

In 2015, JSU proudly introduced the Meteorology Program Hall of Fame, honoring trailblazers
such as:

● President Emeritus Dr. John A. Peoples Jr., Visionary of the program
● Dr. Keith Johnson, NOAA scientist and the program’s first professor
● Patricia Brown, the program’s first graduate
● Vivian Brown, former Weather Channel broadcast meteorologist
